Unanswered questions have been nagging at me. Kim is like so many other women, it seems to me, who have grown up with trauma. And yet there is no talk of the long-term effects. I decide to put the question of sexual abuse to her plainly. She tells me that yes, something did happen in the home of a relative when she was a girl, but she doesn’t want to get into the details. She has never talked about this before. She doesn’t want to dwell on the pain. I am saddened by her admission, and the fact that so many years later, she is still so clearly devastated.
And I am saddened that even here, in a place for relaxation and nurturing, she is unable to divest herself, even for a few hours, of the blue contact lenses and blond wig.
“Think about it,” she confesses when I ask her to talk about her experience of skin color. “The girls that [men] dated when I was younger were light-skinned and tall. I’m short and brown-skinned. And I always wondered … how do I fit in?”
Did she ever overcome the feeling of being ugly?
“I really haven’t,” she admits. “Honestly, though, I think being Lil’ Kim the rapper helped me deal with it better. Because I got to dress up in expensive clothes, and I got to look like a movie star or whatever. I think doing photo shoots and seeing all the people respond to me has helped. [But] I still don’t see what they see.”

If you don’t put sugar in your spaghetti, you don’t love yourself. I actually only know one person who doesn’t put sugar in their spaghetti so the thought of sugar not being spaghetti is foreign to me. I only ever heard about this 3 years ago. I feel sorry for her taste buds. Sugar can go into rice or not, but sugar, butter, & a little milk in rice is bomb. Grits are satan’s food, horrible with sugar or without.
I have never heard about sugar in spaghetti. This is new to me and I have no idea what grits is.
This hurts me. I can’t even fathom NOT putting sugar in spaghetti so the idea that this is a real thing for some people baffles me. What is the world coming too? I don’t understand.
Never heard of sugar in spaghetti either. Salt in the water, yes , but sugar? 😨
I don’t understand.
Sugar goes in the meat sauce that you make.
Um, like no.
crushed garlic/minced onions/scallions/chicken buillion/actual tomatoes (can of stewing tomatoes is good). Get that doing its thing on a slow simmer then add the ground turkey/beef etc to the above garlic/onions/buillion until browned then toss in the fresh tomatoes and a small bottle of basic pasta sauce. Closer to end of cooking can sprinkle some parm to add richness and red or white house wine, a cup for robustness.
There is no sugar, young lady.
See you have a whole legit process going on here. I have never heard of putting chicken buillion in your spaghetti. How long does it take you to make spaghetti? Mine is like 45 minutes.
I do is onions, green peppers(sometimes red & yellow), & garlic(not always, sometimes garlic seasoning depending what I have at home). I cook that with the meat. Once that’s done, I add the tomato sauce & paste. I add a little sugar to the sauce & eventually mix in the pasta.
I’ll have to try it your way & see cause you have a whole process with the wine & parm. I never used onions & scallions together since scallions have been called green onions my whole life, I normally use either but never both together cause I though they basically added the same flavor to food. I only really use scallions if I don’t have onions or on tacos or in salads.
I put sugar and hot sauce in my spaghetti sauce. The hint of sweet and the kick of the spice balance each other well. Plus it brings out the other seasonings too. If it don’t have sugar or hot sauce it just taste like loose marinara to me…
I only recently started adding a pinch on sugar to my spaghetti sauce, it’s bomb.
